Dr Ritu Arora, currently a Professor at Guru Nanak Eye Centre, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi shares why she chose to stay in a medical college setup after completing her residency

Q1. What form of practice are you in? (Solo/Group/Corporate/Private institution/Public institution/Medical College)
I am in a medical college in New Delhi.

Q2. Why did you choose the current form of practice you are in?
I was always interested in academics and felt that a medical college would be the most suitable place to pursue that. On a personal front, being a woman, I needed to balance out my time at home and work and since my spouse was in private practice, money was not the main attraction.

Q3. Do you have experience of any other form of practice apart from the one you are currently in? If yes, could you briefly compare them?
No. have never been in any other form of practice.

Q4. What did you perceive as the key advantages and disadvantages in your current form of practice?
I think the main advantages of being at a medical college include a sense of work satisfaction, die to clinical practice and academics. Additionally, a well balanced life between work and home and children, which I think is very important can be achieved. Another benefit of being at a medical college is that there is a constant updating of knowledge.

The disadvantages are few. Probably the main disadvantage is that infrastructure can get dated and takes time to upgrade. Also at many times, bureaucratic issues create problems.

Q5. If you were to start a new practice today, would you choose a different one?
No. I think I am quite happy and would choose to be at a medical college again.
